Through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, we assist veteran families in securing permanent housing.
The SSVF program works to maximize high-quality housing options and to access available financial resources to prevent and eliminate homelessness.
With support from the SSVF Division Director, supervision from SSVF Case Management Supervisor and Service Line leadership, the Housing Navigator helps housing insecure veterans achieve housing stability through HUD Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) partnership.
This position requires housing knowledge, as well as a deep commitment to “Housing First”.
In collaboration with HUD VASH, Housing Navigators will work to prioritize Veterans' seeking to live in community-based stable housing by having a strong working knowledge of available resources (VA and non-VA) and by making warm handoffs whenever possible.
The position requires excellent people skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and collaborative orientation.
The ideal housing navigator is highly organized, well versed with Maryland voucher programs and has the ability to work with multiple entities within the SSVF provider network and HUDVASH team.
Bachelor’s or Associates degree preferred, with 3- 5 years of related experience. Will consider relevant industry related experience in lieu of education.
Certification or licensure related to housing, tenant rights, or real estate (e.g. HUD Housing Counselor certification, real estate licensure, property management experience) preferred
Experience with chronic behavioral health issues and/or knowledge of substance use disorders preferred.
Commitment to “Housing First” philosophy and strategies.
Knowledge of housing, tenant rights, and related areas.
Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel within the community, some rare weekend availability
Experience with computers and knowledge of commonly used office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom, PowerPoint, WebEx.
Ability to learn relevant technology and software platforms, including HMIS and electronic health records
Valid driver’s license, current insurance, and a car.
Strong written and verbal skills
Spanish speaking ability is an added asset, but is not required.
